The Tradeskill System
.. The Tradeskill System was an idea developed to go along with Faction Townships & Wars. It can only be described as a system in which players work certain jobs to process raw materials into finished products. The benefit of this would be the finish products would be used towards the construction of the Faction Townships (or any Property Zone). But the process of this system was designed to be somewhat complex and detailed. .. A player does not simply go out and chop down a tree for lumber. A Farm must first plant a seedling tree, water and tend to it. The seedling will grow into a tree and once mature enough, can be chopped by a lumberjack. Once chopped the tree is transported by airship to a saw mill, and processed through a Mill Machine, creating lumber. .. A player does not simply go out and dig ore out of a mine for metal. The miner does go into a mine and extracts ore, which is transported to a Smelter Pot. The ore is put into the smelter and melted and cooked, then poured into molds and forged into machine parts. An assembler then builds the machine. .. The complete idea behind this process is that a single Mine & Smelter Pot would be created. From this first smelter would come a Saw Mill Machine to create lumber, or another smelter pot. The machinery and tools needed for tradeskills would be created by the players and for the players, and not just simply purchased. .. Faction Townships & Property Zones would use the finish products as construction costs instead of platinum. For example to create a door might cost 50 Lumber Points, or to create a locking door would cost 50 Lumber Points and 5 Metal Points. These points would be kept in 'pallets' which would be transported and stored in airships. .. In 2003 a large portion of the Tradeskill System was coded, the following charts below display the main command and sub command structures already designed and coded. Construction on the system was halted due to severe problems, such as certain aspects of the system caused lag problems. But this does not mean the system will never appear on Waterdeep. This page is used for education and basically a record of what has been constructed. |

Tradeskill .. The Tradeskill Command is the primary command of the system. The command with no argument will display a character sheet showing you your Tradeskill Stats and Information. A player begins by rolling for Tradeskill Creation Points and only gets to roll three different times. These points are used to gain the available Tradeskills. The skills themselves are split into two classes, Major Tradeskills and Minor Tradeskills. Major Tradeskills involve training skills and your professional, while Minor Tradeskills allow you to operate machinery or use Airship Loaders.

Business .. A player can easily start their own business with this command. Once a business is formed, you can hire employees. Typing this command with no arguement will give you a character sheet of your Business. An Employer with the WORK command can set players Payrates and how many hours they are allowed to work for you. You can automatically pay your employee with the Business Pay command.

Work .. The work command is generally for workers. A worker is given a payrate by their employer and given a certain number of hours they are allowed to work. Despite how many allocated hours a worker has, they can only work so many before they become fatigue and must rest/sleep to regain their strength. The quit command allows you to quit your job.

Machine .. The machine command is used by a Machine Operator to start and run industrial machines. Machines require fuel to operate and will wear out over time, which means repairs must be made. The machine operator must work the machine with two other workers by pulling a series of levers. The machines will turn raw materials into finished product.

Lever .. Main command used to run a machine. As the machine run, one of the three workers in the room will be commanded to pull a certain color level. Failure to pull the lever will result the machine to go back into an idle stat. Pulling the lever will continue the machine to run, making more finished product.

Pry .. There are several industrial accidents that can happen. A lumberjack has a chance to be trapped underneath a tree. A Machine Worker has a chance of being caught into the gears of the machine. In both cases fellow workers must use crowbars and pry the trapped worker free.

Assemble .. Metal is forged into parts which are assembled into machines. The assemble command is used by an Assembler to create the machines connected several major parts together. There are three primary machines and two machine engines.

Chop .. The chop command is used by lumberjacks to chop a tree down. There is skill involved with this command and experience is gained by how many trees you have chopped. The more trees you chop, the easier it will be to drop them.

Farm .. A Farmer is used to plant trees, and must water and tend to them. Tending is used to describe the command in which you upgrade the plant. At first a seed will be planted and tended to. It will grow to a certain point and must be 'tended' to. For example if you plant an oak tree seed, when it first needs tending and you tend to it, the seed becomes an Oak Tree Seedling. After time the seedling will need tending and turn into a small tree, then a medium tree, a large tree, and a huge tree. Each stage takes time for growth and the longer a tree grows, the more lumber it will yield. A small tree can be cut down but will yield a small amount of lumber. It should be noted that trees are automatically watered when there is rain type weather.
